Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to Studio City Animal Hospital. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about our services, appointments, and pet care. If you have a question not addressed here, please don't hesitate to contact us.

General Hospital & Appointment Questions

  • What types of pets do you treat?

We are a full-service, multi-doctor veterinary hospital that cares for dogs, cats, a variety of birds, pocket pets, and other exotic pets.

  • What are your hours of operation?

    Our current hours are:

    • Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
    • Note: We are open 7 days a week, but please call for specific holiday hours.
  • Do I need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?

We see patients primarily by appointment. Walk-ins are accommodated for urgent and emergency care needs. To ensure timely service for routine visits, we recommend scheduling an appointment.

  • Can I drop off my pet for an appointment or procedure?

Yes, for your convenience, we offer drop-off appointments. Please call ahead to arrange this service, and we can provide specific instructions for drop-off times (usually in the morning).

  • What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring any previous medical records, including vaccination dates and lab work, for your pet. We also have a New Client Registration Form available on our website that you can print and fill out at home to save time.

  • What is your payment policy?

Payment is expected at the time services are rendered. We accept various forms of payment. We also suggest looking into pet insurance options or services like CareCredit to help manage unexpected medical costs.

Wellness & Preventive Care

  • How often does my pet need a check-up and vaccinations?

Regular annual wellness exams are important for monitoring your pet's overall health and detecting potential issues early. Our veterinarians will create a customized vaccination and preventive care schedule based on your pet's age, lifestyle, and individual health needs.

  • Why does my pet need parasite prevention year-round if they are mostly indoors?

Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoes, which can easily get into houses. Fleas and ticks are also carriers of diseases and can pose a risk even to indoor pets. We recommend year-round prevention for optimal protection.

  • Do I need blood work for my healthy pet?

We recommend annual pre-anesthetic blood testing for procedures and routine blood work for healthy pets to establish a baseline of normal health and screen for underlying conditions that aren't visible on the surface. Early detection often leads to more effective and less costly treatment.

Dental & Surgical Services

  • Is anesthesia safe for my older pet?

We use the safest, multi-modal approach to anesthesia, individually tailored for each pet. With recommended pre-operative testing to check organ function, anesthesia is generally considered very low risk, even for older pets.

  • Why are dental cleanings important?

Dental disease is very common in pets. Bacteria and plaque can lead to painful gum inflammation (gingivitis), and if left untreated, cause systemic infections in vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys. A professional cleaning removes this buildup and helps maintain overall health.

  • When is the best time to spay or neuter my pet?

Spaying or neutering has major health benefits, including reducing the risk of certain cancers and behavioral problems. We typically recommend this procedure around 5-6 months of age, but the optimal time may vary by individual pet. We can discuss the best timing for your pet's specific situation during a visit.

Emergencies & Resources

  • Do you offer 24/7 emergency care?

We provide urgent and emergency care during our regular business hours (listed above). For after-hours emergencies, we refer clients to a local, fully equipped emergency hospital. Please call our main number for information on after-hours care.

  • Where can I find reliable information on pet health and behavior?

We offer various resources on our website for pet owners, including information on Dog Behavior & Training Tips, the ASPCA Toxic & Non-Toxic Plant Guide, Cat Care & Behavior, and dental health resources.

  • I'm traveling with my pet soon. What do I need to do?

Travel requirements for pets vary widely by destination and airline. Please check relevant government websites for your destination's specific requirements, and then make an appointment with us to ensure all necessary documentation, vaccinations, and testing are completed.
